We’d never been to the Flagstaff Hill village at Warrnambool, so we spent a few hours there. There are a number of excellent presentations, including the audio visual as you enter regarding conditions on the sailing ships that made the journey from Britain to Australia in the mid-19th century, a lot of information about the ships that came to grief on the “Shipwreck Coast” and, of course, the recreated maritime village, compete with bank, church, tea rooms (operational, although the coffee has been updated to cappuccino!), medical office and a lot more. You can also visit the garrison artillery battery, dating from the 1880s and climb one of the Flagstaff Hill lighthouses. It’s all well done and definitely worth a visit!
