Rain gardens

I see that it’s nearly five years since the Council constructed (or, more accurately, re-constructed) a couple of “rain gardens” in a nearby street.   Where has the time gone?

Be that as it may, there’s been a lot of rain in recent days, so I was interested to see how well the rain-gardens have been functioning.  In fact, they appear to have been quite effective.    There’s some pooling of water when it’s raining heavily, but even though it might be thought that the ground would be getting close to saturated, the water seems to get absorbed, presumably reducing the load on the storm-water drains.   The photos below were taken a few minutes after a shower during which some pooling had occurred, and show that the water drained into the ground quite quickly.
