Mission Beach is said to be 1½ hours south of Cairns, but by the time we drove from Port Douglas and then on to Mission Beach, with several slowings for roadworks and traffic on the mainly single-lane Bruce Highway, it took us quite a while to get here. We had a refreshment stop at Innisfail, at the “Coffee Club” overlooking the river.
Mission Beach itself is “laid back” (think backpackers and caravan park), although we had an excellent dinner at one of the restaurants. On the other hand, Castaways Resort where we’re staying is definitely “up-market”. Pity their wi fi apparently struggles to cope, with access to it being problematic at times.
