The Autumn Equinox

This year, the autumn equinox, when the Earth’s poles are both the same distance away from the sun,  was on 20 March (in Melbourne, at 3.30 pm in the afternoon).  The sun rose in the due east and set in the due west, and the day and night were about the same duration (that is, 12 hours).
