Shortages

There have been media reports for a while about shortages of infant formula … because the Chinese are buying so much!   It seems that there’s a “grey market”;   it’s bought locally and then sold on-line or taken to China.

However, over the weekend, the issue seemed to burst into prominence with a number of articles in the newspapers.  I noticed that there was a limit of 2 tins per customer in a local supermarket.

IMG_20140121_181915I guess this is a nice problem for the local industry to have, but ultimately the answer must surely be to boost supply directly into China rather than have a situation where intermediaries are distorting the market.
